Notes |
Suitable indications for carrying out Digoxin Therapeutic Drug Monitoring are : . Toxicity suspected. When to take a digoxin level : . Digoxin samples for routine plasma level monitoring should usually be obtained 7-14 days following the initiation or change in maintenance regimen, unless there are signs or symptomsof toxicity . In patients with end stage renal disease it may take 15-20 days for steady state to be achieved. .Plasma digoxin concentrations should not be measured before steady state is reached (unless toxicity is suspected) as this will underestimate the digoxin concentrations. Ideal Sampling Time: At least 8 hours after the last intravenous/oral digoxin dose. Comments : . The plasma potassium concentration should be measured with the plasma digoxin concentration. . Haemolysis may invalidate.

Reference range |
Digoxin Therapeutic Range : 0.6 - 2.6 nmol/L There is evidence to suggest that the lower end of the range may be more suitable for heart failure (i.e. 0.8 - 1.5 nmol/L). |
