When to take a lithium level : Serum lithium concentrations should be taken; One week (5 to 7 days) after starting treatment or dose change, then at weekly intervals until the required level is reached. Every week until dosage has remained constant for 4 weeks. Every three months for patients once stablised.
Ideal Sampling Time : 12 hours after the last dose of lithium (just before the next dose in a twice daily dosing regimen).
