Investigation |
Parathyroid hormone (PTH) plays an important role in calcium homeostasis. Serum PTH measurement is important in investigating disorders of calcium metabolism e.g. hypercalcaemia and hypocalcaemia. PTH is stable in blood for only 6 hours at room temperature unless separated and frozen. Please take account of this in the interpretation of any PTH results received. Assay performed on the Roche Cobas e801 immunoassay analyser. Samples from the bone clinic will be performed on the Roche e411. analyser. The factor for converting PTH mass units (pg/ml) to SI (pmol/L) is multiplication (x) by 0.106 Reference Range Please note the default PTH reference range provided relates to median concentration across Summer and Winter with a Vit D concentration >50nmol/l and <75nmol/L.
