Appropriate clinical details and a list of all current medication are required. Avoid serotonin rich foods (fruit, nuts and chocolate) and non-prescription oral 5hydroxytryptophan. Patient consent form must be completed prior to sample collection, signed by the patient and instructor and held in patient chart. Collection instructions are available below in related links section. Please note: 5HIAA is currently being analysed in Beaumont hospital laboratory by Mass Spec. VMA & HVA are unavailable for adults. 5HIAA should be collected into a darkened acidified container. Tests available to SJH patients only. |
