Whole blood EDTA samples should be sent to the lab as soon as possible after specimen collection. Do not refrigerate these samples or do not send them on ice. EDTA samples which have been centrifuged and separated should be sent to the lab frozen. Please include the position the patient was in whilst blood was being taken (ie Supine or Erect). This will aid in clinical interpretation of results. Of note, there are various recommendations available in relation to sampling for these tests e.g. Patient out of bed for at least two hours and seated for at least 5 to 15 minutes before sample is drawn.
