Progesterone is a marker of ovulation in females and is also required for establishment and maintenance of pregnancy. Measurement of serum progesterone is therefore useful in investigating infertility in females and in confirming that ovulation has occurred. It can also be measured in patients on progesterone treatment and in evaluating those with abnormal uterine bleeding. |
