Notes |
Please indicate on request for Renin whether the patient is erect or supine (standing or lying down) whilst the blood is being taken. This will aid clinical interpretation of results. Whole blood EDTA samples should be sent to the lab as soon as possible after specimen collection. Do not refrigerate these samples or do not send them on ice. EDTA samples which have been centrifuged and separated should be sent to the lab frozen. Morning sample is desirable as Renin is affected by diurnal variation. Of note, there are various recommendations available in relation to sampling for these tests e.g. Patient out of bed for at least two hours and seated for at least 5 to 15 minutes before sample is drawn. Please refer to the reference below regarding the optimal conditions for sampling The Management of Primary Aldosteronism: Case Detection, Diagnosis, and Treatment: An Endocrine Society Clinical Practice Guideline.
