Notes |
Note: CgA is a calcium binding protein and its measurement is influenced by calcium concentration Drug interference: Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) can cause falsely elevated CgAs. Discontinue for 7-14 days prior to testing Some clinical conditions unrelated to carcinoid or other neuroendocrine tumours such as atrophic gastritis, impaired renal function or impaired hepatic function can lead to elevated CgAs Repeat sampling for CgA should be taken at same time of day as original test. Overnight fasting recommended (food intake can elevate CgA values) Separate serum and store at -20oC if not assayed within 48 hours Samples cannot be analysed if severe haemolysis or lipaemia present |
