Notes |
Collection Guidelines 1) Sample must be taken at least 12 hours post suspected SAH (may be useful up to 2 weeks post event) 2) At least 1 ml of CSF is required. It is best to use the last sample taken during LP (i.e. least blood contaminated ). Do not dilute the specimen 3) Portect the specimen immediately from light 4) A blood sample should be taken at the same time. This sample should be tested for bilirubin and total protein (Liver profile).- This may be required for interpretation of CSF bilirubin result. 5) The samples need to be hand delivered to the laboratory. Do not use the pneumatic tube system. Please contact Biochemistry Department before collecting sample for external tests as most external tests need pre-approval with finance. All external tests need to be accompanied by a form, check with Biochemistry which form is required. Some external tests are only dispatched Monday – Wednesday and should be sent on the day of collection. |
