Notes |
Please note that, in compliance with INAB requirements, St James’s hospital Biochemistry Department is now reporting a reference range for serum thyroglobulin. As the vast majority of requests for this assay relate to the regular monitoring of thyroid cancer patients, it is important to note that this reference range applies only to patients with intact thyroid glands. Therefore this reference range is not applicable to serum thyroglobulin results used for the assessment of patients following total thyroidectomy and/or thyroid ablation therapy for cancer patients, as serum thyroglobulin should not normally be detected in such patients. External users subject to service level aggreement. Contact the laboratory for more information. |
