Fresh unfixed tissue rapidly transported to Histopathology. Report usually phoned to Theatre within 15 to 20 minutes of receipt (mean time to reach the laboratory from theatre is 20 minutes). Issuing of final report must await permanent sections. Phone hospital porters at Tel 416 2805 for urgent transport. Specimen must be handed to member of LabMed staff. A 'green Frozen Section' sticker should be placed on all frozen section request forms Frozen sections must be booked in advance, Histopathology Tel 416 2033. Relevant consultant Histopathologist must be contacted prior to receipt. Frozen sections are generally not carried out in cases of high risk infection, TB, HCV, HIV, and HBV. However, a decision to proceed with frozen section in these cases may be made following discussion with the consultant pathologist reviewing the material |
