Useful for:

Detecting circulating basement membrane antibodies that can be present in Bullous Pemphigoid, Cicatritial Pemphigoid, Epidermolysis Bullosa Aquisitia (EBA) and bullous eruptions associated with Lupus Erethematosis (LE).
Detecting circulating cell surface antibodies that are found in patients with Pemphigus Vulgaris.

Clinical Information:

The serum of patients with an autoimmune or inflammatory disease of the skin, often contain immunoglobulin, complement and/or fibrinogen directed against skin antigens.
Circulating basement membrane IgG antibodies can be present in Bullous Pemphigoid, Cicatritial Pemphigoid, Epidermolysis Bullosa Aquisitia (EBA) and bullous eruptions associated with Lupus Erethematosis (LE).
Circulating cell surface IgG antibodies are found in patients with Pemphigus Vulgaris.

Please Note:

All Circulating Skin Antibodies (IgG) are titred at 1:10, 1:20, 1:40 and 1:80.
Titre values for circulating cell surface antibodies correlate with disease activity in Pemphigus Vulgaris only.
Results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical, histologic and direct immunofluorescent findings.
Where External Institiutions cannot guarantee immediate delivery, samples must be centrifuged, separated and stored at 4oC. Samples can then be transported, as soon as possible, to St James's Hospital for processing.
