Notes |
Useful for:
- Investigating patients for IgG4-related disease.
Clinical Information:
- Immunoglobulin G (IgG) represents about 80% of normal serum immunoglobulin.
- Approximately 65% of total IgG is IgG1, 25% is IgG2, 6% is IgG3 and 4% is IgG4.
- The subclass of IgG is determined by differences in the gamma heavy chain.
- IgG4-related disease is characterised by a tumorlike swelling in the involved organ, infiltrated with IgG4 positive plasma cells.
- Conditions that may be associated with IgG4-related disease include Autoimmune Pancreatitis, Mikulicz disease, Sclerosing Sialadenitis, Inflammatory Orbital Pseudotumor, Chronic Sclerosing Aortitis, Reidel Thyroiditis, Hashimoto Thyroiditis, Interstitial Pneumonitis and Tubulointerstitial Nephritis.
Please Note:
- As this test is most useful in the investigation of IgG4-related disease, IgG4 levels are not measured in combination with the other Immunoglobulin Subclasses.
- Where External Institiutions cannot guarantee immediate delivery, samples must be centrifuged, separated and stored at 4oC. Samples can then be transported, as soon as possible, to St. James's Hospital for processing.
