Useful for:

• A marker for exposure in Allergic Lung Disease/Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis.

Clinical Information:

• Specific IgG antibodies against foreign antigens form as part of the normal immune response.
• Consequently the presence of specific IgG antibodies indicate exposure to an antigen.
• Specific IgG antibodies against Budgerigar and Pigeon serum proteins, feathers and droppings and certain moulds such as Aspergillus Fumigatus and Micropolyspora Faeni confirm exposure to these antigens in allergic lung disease/hypersensitivity pneumonitis.

Please Note:

• The choice of Specific IgG test request should primarily be clinically led and results should be interpreted within the clinical context.
• Positive results for Specific IgG tests indicate exposure to an allergen but do not necessarily correlate with clinical symptoms.
• Pigeon and Budgerigar serum proteins, feathers and droppings are tested as a pair.
• Where External Institiutions cannot guarantee immediate delivery, samples must be centrifuged, separated and stored at 4^oC. Samples can then be transported, as soon as possible, to St. James's Hospital for processing.
