Wet Preps are no longer preformed on all HVSs received in Microbiology from GPs. Molecular testing is the test of choice. Please use Aptima collection tubes to take samples. For Aptima collection kits please phone the Microbiology office on 01 416 2966. Specimens are sent to the National Virus Reference Laboratory, University College Dublin, belfield, Dublin 4 for testing. Samples should be transported to the laboratory without delay. Samples can be stored at room temperature prior to transport, or if there is a delay in transportation to the laboratory. |
