Intracytoplasmic inclusions (morulae) are characteristic of ehrlichiosis and are seen in the cytoplasm of neutrophils in 20 to 80 percent of patients with HGA. It is therefore advisable to request a peripheral blood smear/buffy coat examination in addition to serology or PCR testing. Please discuss with Microbiology medical staff.
