Routine screening: Daily. Urgent screening: Performed for Keith Shaw Ward/Keith Shaw ITU and ICU patients from 08:00 - 22:00 or on request through the Consultant Microbiologist. |

*In the event of a positive screen the turnaround time may be extended. Screening for CPE includes:
Admission screening: To be conducted on patients with high and moderate risk, and patients being transferred from another health care institution. Discharge screening: There is no indication for patients to be tested on discharge. Screening of staff: This is not routinely recommended. Routine Screening: Methods for routine screening include culture on Chromogenic agar and/ or by Molecular EntericBio PCR CRE Assay Urgent screening: Urgent screening is performed using a molecular assay - GeneXPert. Please contact Consultant Microbiologist. Send sample to the laboratory without delay. Sample should be refrigerated if not transported immediately |
