Notes |
1-3 Beta-d-glucan is a panfungal marker which is a useful adjuvant to the diagnosis of invasive candidiasis/Invasive fungal disease. Please note: Certain fungi such as Cryptococcus, the Mucorales group (Rhizopus, Mucor, Absidia) and Blastomyces dermatitidis produce little or no β-D-glucan. The following sample conditions may interfere with an accurate assay result: haemolysis, turbid/lipemic samples, the presence of bilirubin in the serum or elevated levels of IgG such as those found in multiple myeloma. Results should be interpreted in collaboration/discussion with a medical microbiologist. Please allow 3 days before repeat sampling. Specimens taken on consecutive days will not all be tested. Send sample to the laboratory without delay. Sample should be refrigerated if not transported immediately
