CMV PCR is not routinely indicated in an immunocompetent patient. CMV serology is alternatively available. CMV PCR can also be performed on Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) specimens. CMV antiviral resistance testing can be ordered following consultation with Dr. Brendan Crowley, Consultant Virologist on (01 4162968 bcrowley@stjames.ie) The detection and quantification of CMV DNA uses the Argene CMV R-gene assay. The Argene CMV R-gene assay is standardized against the the WHO International Standard for CMV DNA for Nucleic Acid Technology (NAT) Assays Testing (NIBSC 09/162) and titre results are reported in International Units ( IU/ml) Send sample to the laboratory without delay. Sample should be refrigerated if not transported immediately. |
