Genotypic resistance assays detect the presence of specific drug resistance mutations in the regions of the HIV genome encoding protease and reverse transcriptase. Specimens must be sent to the laboratory without delay, as samples must be separated within 4 hours. Please mark as urgent and package separately. Bring to the attention of the medical scientist on-call if delivery is out of hours. Specimens sent to National Virus Reference Laboratory user manual, University College Dublin, Belfield, Dublin 4 HIV resistance testing is not recommended in patients with a viral load less than 1,000 copies per mL. |
