Notes |
Rubella reinfection can be demonstrated through a rise in IgG concentrations or detection of IgM in a patient with preexisting IgG antibodies to the virus. IgM levels in reinfection are usually lower and more transient than in primary infection . A molecular qualitative assay to directly detect rubella in serum or saliva (oral fluid) is available by arrangement. Specimens for Rubella serology are sent to National Virus Reference Laboratory, University College Dublin, Belfield, Dublin 4. Send sample to the laboratory without delay. Sample should be refrigerated if not transported immediately. |
