Albumin is a major plasma protein. It is synthesised in the liver and has a half-life of approximately 20 days. It is clinically useful for assessing nutritional status. Hypoalbuminaemia may be seen in nephrotic syndrome, liver disease, malabsorption or acute inflammation of any cause. |
