Utilised in the diagnosis and management of diabetes mellitus and pre-diabetes. HbA1c provides an assessment of blood glucose control over the previous 2-3 month period. Underlying anaemia or haemoglobinopathy may limit the usefulness of this test, and other options e.g. serum Fructosamine may need to be considered. |
