The oral glucose tolerance test is used to assess whether a patient can use and store glucose normally. It may be used in the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus, gestational diabetes, insulin resistance, reactive hypoglycaemia and acromegaly, amongst other conditions. Glucose levels may be checked fasting, at 1- and 2- hours post-glucose load depending on the clinical indication. |
