Flow cytometry is the process, whereby multiple surface or intra-cellular markers are analysed simultaneously on white blood cell populations. This allows for an accurate phenotypic characterization of the cell. It plays an important role in diagnosis and classification of haematological malignancies, including leukaemia & lymphoma, & disease monitoring through Minimal Residual Disease assessment. |

Bone Marrow Aspirate / FNA / Fluid in RPMI. Bone Marrow Aspirate or Peripheral Blood in 4ml purple EDTA sample. For CLL MRD or Mantle Cell MRD analysis, a 9mL EDTA sample or equivalent is required. |

All persons making requests for Immunophenotyping are asked to supply material for morphological examination. For requests that require urgent processing; the laboratory must be notified in advance by telephoning 4162048. Out of hours service exists by arrangement with Consultant Haematologist. To contact Consultant Haematologist, ring main hospital switchboard on 01 4103000. Notified urgent requests can be verbally reported within 24Hrs |
