NOTE: Patients with atypical antibodies may take longer depending on the complexity of the antibodies involved. Laboratory will contact team to discuss delay in provision of red cells. There is always a small risk that the patient’s antibody screen result may be positive and the units may be incompatible retrospectively following release of ABO group specific Uncrossmatched red cell units. Uncrossmatched units may have to be recalled by the laboratory or transfusion stopped in this case and a Haematology Consult is advised. |
