Notes |
Respiratory viruses are extremely thermolabile and therefore should be transported to the laboratory without delay. The quality of the sample is a major determinant in identifying the causative agent. Sample should be refrigerated if not transported immediately. Please ensure that lid is on correctly and fastened securely. One combined nose and throat swab is sufficient for ALL respiratory viral analysis. Testing for additional pathogens (Parainfluenza, Human Metapneumovirus, Adenovirus, Rhinovirus) is not performed on immunocompetent patients. Requests for Influenza and RSV may not be performed outside of the winter respiratory season. All results will be accessible on EPR as soon as testing is complete.
